Lilly Postdoctoral Research Scientist-Drug Metabolism/Transport-FDE in Indianapolis, Indiana

At Lilly, we unite caring with discovery to make life better for people around the world. We are a global healthcare leader headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana. Our 35,000 employees around the world work to discover and bring life-changing medicines to those who need them, improve the understanding and management of disease, and give back to our communities through philanthropy and volunteerism. We give our best effort to our work, and we put people first. We’re looking for people who are determined to make life better for people around the world.

About Eli Lilly’s Postdoctoral Scientist Program:

When it comes to research and development, our goal is to discover and deliver innovative medicines that make life better for people around the world. It’s challenging, expensive and often filled with failure. But even when we fail, we advance medical science and understanding by learning more about diseases, biology and chemistry – ultimately bringing new solutions one step closer to reality.

Over the course of our history, we have shed light on some of the toughest health care problems known to man – diabetes, heart disease, infectious diseases, neuroscience disorders, cancer and more. We could not pursue this without our research and development team.

Postdoctoral scientists help us continue this pursuit. During your experience you will get:

  • Top industry research experience

  • Mentoring by some of Lilly’s top scientists

  • Laboratory and classroom training and education to further your development

  • Collaboration and networking across dozens of postdoctoral scientists and other researchers

Our team is part of Lilly's Drug Disposition organization. We are a dynamic group of scientists who are passionate about our work. We are looking for a postdoctoral scientist to join our efforts. Has your training involved laboratory experience with metabolism and/or transporter studies? As a postdoctoral fellow, you will investigate in-depth mechanisms underlying drug disposition and drug-drug interactions. You will explore novel in vitro assays for improving in vitro-to-in vivo extrapolation for drug metabolism and transport. We will help you to learn and apply pharmacokinetic principles by employing in vitro data for prediction of preclinical and clinical pharmacokinetic data, including the use of physiologically-based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) modeling.

Our postdoctoral research opportunities offer exposure to industry experts and cutting edge science. Consider joining the postdoctoral community on our team today!

Key objectives:

  • Establish new set of in vitro conditions/methods for testing transporter and enzyme inhibition

  • Evaluate the effect of enzyme/transporter inhibition on pharmacokinetic parameters in preclinical species

  • Compose a library of compounds that inhibit enzymes/transporters in vivo, with accompanying clinical drug-drug interactions studies

  • Build and verify PBPK models for these enzyme/transporter inhibitors to discern the effect of enzyme vs. transporter inhibition

  • Apply the in vitro data in the PBPK models to assess prediction of clinical drug-drug interactions

  • Present research at key conferences and author publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Basic qualifications:

PhD in biological subject area or PharmD with research laboratory experience

Additional skills/preferences:

  • Knowledge and experience in enzymology

  • Understanding of mechanistic pharmacokinetic principles and/or drug-drug interactions

  • Experience with pharmacokinetic analysis and modeling software (e.g. Phoenix, Simcyp, Gastroplus, Nonmem, R)

  • Bioanalytical / LC/MS experience

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

Additional information:

  • This position is not permanent. It is for a fixed duration of 2 years with the potential to extend annually for up to 4 years.

  • The position is governed by regulations including OSHA, AAALAC, OLAW and NRC — compliance to all applicable regulations is mandatory.
