We are seeking an ambitious post-doctoral scientist with strong research and communication skills to contribute to high visible research projects. Your work will contribute to the development of approaches for treating chronic pain with novel RNA-based modalities. If this sounds exciting, apply today!

In this role, you will:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams within our Discovery laboratories to schedule, coordinate, and execute high-quality molecular biology-based studies that help us understand the pathophysiology of pain.

  • Contribute to research interrogating the molecular heterogeneity of chronic pain mechanisms. Collaborate with academic and medical experts to build internal knowledge of the molecular basis of chronic pain.

  • Perform in vitro molecular and genetic experiments and develop cellular models (CRISPR, iPSCs, RNA editing) for understanding functional genetic variants and epigenetic modifications.

  • Characterize gene/protein expression by various methods (e.g. qPCR, RNAseq, RNAscope, Western Blot, ELISA).

  • Characterize epigenetic changes using a variety of methods (e.g. qPCR, RNAseq, DNAseq, ChIP)

  • Characterize neuronal excitability related to the interrogated molecular mechanisms.

  • Develop and test novel tools for modulating genetic and epigenetic modifications in sensory cell types.

  • Use analytical skills and creativity with a willingness to search and review the scientific literature independently, maintaining awareness of external research environment.

  • Record, analyze and communicate scientific data to project teams with clear interpretation of results and proposed next steps.

  • Identify areas of key need across clinical development and champion unique solutions to address those needs.

  • Present findings at conferences and publish in high quality peer-reviewed journals.

Basic Qualifications:

PhD in Neuroscience, Physiology or other life science related field

Additional Skills/Preferences:

  • Excellent communicator (oral and written) with presentation experience, along with a strong publication record.

  • Proficient in data analysis and reporting; basic bioinformatic and statistical background

  • Experienced with modulating and measuring post-transcriptional RNA modifications (e.g. editing, methylation)

  • Proficient cell culture technique (primary neuronal and immortalized cells)

  • Experienced with genetic modification tools, such as CRISPR, and experience with virus-mediated delivery methods

  • Skilled at isolating and measuring nucleotides and proteins

  • Animal handling and in vivo pharmacology skills

Additional Information:

This position is not permanent. It is for a fixed duration of two years with potential to extend to 3 years and for maximum of up to 4 years.
