Lilly's Biotechnology Discovery Research and Synthetic Molecule Design and Development organizations work together to discover and optimize novel biotherapeutic medicines (small molecules, proteins, peptides, antibodies, oligonucleotides) for advancement into clinical research in key areas of unmet medical need including diabetes, oncology, immunology, neuroscience, and others. Critical components for success in this industrial postdoctoral position include ensuring the discovery of drug candidates, design of drug products that meet patient needs and development of processes, which are robust for manufacturing.

In this role you will engage in designing and conducting research on solid dosage forms for oral peptide delivery. The scientist will work collaboratively with a wide array of scientists from many areas, leading/supporting relevant research initiatives, bringing new capabilities/technologies and providing internal/external influence.
Crafting, prototyping, and developing formulations for oral peptide delivery.
Building and using internal and external networks to solve complex technical problems and to identify and implement novel formulations, oral delivery systems and manufacturing technologies including 3D-printing to enable delivering peptides orally and enhance internal capabilities and processes.
Integrating fundamental pharmaceutical sciences knowledge (formulation, biopharmaceutics, pharmacokinetics) and patient centered aspects into the design of new dosage forms and development processes.
Developing, validating, and implementing characterization techniques/analytical assays as needed to drive a project.
Authoring and reviewing high quality technical reports and peer reviewed publications.
Ph.D. in pharmaceutical sciences, chemical engineering, polymer science, biomedical engineering, or related subject areas.
Experience in formulation development using 3D-printing.
Expertise in solid dosage form prototyping and development, especially in controlled release formulations.
Understanding of biopharmaceutics/pharmacokinetic principles, and drug product/process design factors impacting in vivo performance of drug products.
Familiarity with utilizing design of experiment (DoE) to optimize formulation.
Familiarity with peptide delivery, formulations, and characterization techniques.
Familiarity with analytical aspects of drug product design and testing.
Ability to work in the lab independently.
This position is not permanent. It is for a fixed duration of two years with potential to extend to 3 years and for maximum of up to 4 years.
