Our Molecular Pharmacology group is comprised of a diverse team of scientists with this goal. We are seeking a biomolecular NMR spectroscopist to join highly dynamic and collaborative team of scientists passionate about discovering new medicines for multiple therapeutic areas. This person would work within the Molecular Pharmacology department in Indianapolis, Indiana, which integrates enzymology, biophysics, cell pharmacology, chemical biology, analytical technologies, and facets of structural biology to uncover mechanistic insights necessary to drive drug discovery efforts.

Responsibilities for the position

  • Provide biomolecular NMR support and expertise in small molecule drug discovery effort spanning target validation to clinical candidate selection across different therapeutic areas

  • Develop and/or implement NMR experiments to probe and characterize the structure, dynamics and interactions of biomolecules and small molecule ligands

  • Provide binding validation and characterization of lead compounds against biomolecular targets using ligand- and/or protein-observed NMR methods

  • Partner closely with other biophysicists, medicinal chemists, protein chemists and structural biologists to develop integrative approaches and address specific project needs and challenges

  • Collaborate on multidisciplinary teams, presenting scientific data in support of research projects

  • Support maintenance and basic troubleshooting of NMR spectrometers in local research facility as well as the implementation of new NMR methods to enhance our existing capabilities

Basic Qualifications

Ph.D. in Biophysics, Biochemistry, Chemistry or other relevant field with demonstrated relevant experience or MS degree in biophysics, biochemistry or similar area with 8+ years of directly applicable experience

Additional Skills/Preferences

  • Screening of fragment libraries to various approaches for hit validation and characterization

  • Solid understanding of Fragment-Based Drug Discovery, including fragment screen by NMR using ligand- and protein-observed NMR methods

  • Basic knowledge of isotope labeled protein expression and purification, including protein construct design and characterization

  • Flexibility to work in an environment with evolving priorities and target completion timelines, with strong interpersonal, verbal communication, and problem-solving skills

  • Strong capability to collaborate with scientists in multiple fields

  • Strong work ethic. Scientific curiosity. Can do, will do mentality

  • Postdoctoral experience and/or experience in the biotech or pharma sector would be helpful with a strong publication record

  • Experience in handling automated scripts and programming skills for liquid handling robotics

  • Familiarity with other biophysical and structural biology methods (E.g., MS, SPR, MST, X-ray crystallography, Electron Microscopy, etc.) is a plus
