The Biotechnology Discovery Research (BioTDR) organization within Lilly Research Laboratories spans target identification to clinical candidate selection. The Lead Optimization Core group within BioTDR is seeking a scientist who is experienced in biophysical characterization to join our diverse, interdisciplinary team. We use our expertise in expression, purification, formulation, and characterization to support the discovery and optimization of a wide array of therapeutic modalities including proteins, peptides, fusions, and conjugates.

Develop and execute biophysical characterization strategies to build fundamental understanding and support the progression of biotherapeutic molecules into development
Build productive relationships within BioTDR and with partner functions and other collaborators, identifying and implementing creative solutions to drive value for the business
Share and acquire knowledge and insights through active participation in technical forums
Mentor and develop associate scientists and effectively manage relationships with vendors
Maintain strong engagement with the external environment through the academic literature, collaborations, involvement in technical meetings/consortia, and other professional networking
Ph.D. in biophysics, biochemistry, chemical engineering, pharmaceutical science, or related field
Experience with the application of a diverse set of biophysical techniques (e.g. calorimetry, spectroscopy, scattering, analytical ultracentrifugation) for the characterization of proteins/peptides
Proven track record of effective collaboration and scientific excellence as evidenced by a strong publication record
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to adapt to changing priorities and timelines
Experience with computational modeling (in particular, coarse-grained molecular dynamics) including experience with related structure modeling software (e.g. MOE, Rosetta)
Experience with biopharmaceutically-relevant systems (e.g. monoclonal antibodies, therapeutic proteins, antibody-drug conjugates)
Experience with handling external collaborations (academic/industry/government)
Experience with scripting or programming languages (e.g. R, Python, JSON)
Experience with statistics and statistical software (e.g. JMP), data science, data visualization
