At Lilly, we unite caring with discovery to make life better for people around the world. We are a global healthcare leader headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana. Our 35,000 employees around the world work to discover and bring life-changing medicines to those who need them, improve the understanding and management of disease, and give back to our communities through philanthropy and volunteerism. We give our best effort to our work, and we put people first. We’re looking for people who are determined to make life better for people around the world.

At Lilly, we serve an extraordinary purpose. For more than 140 years, we have worked tirelessly to discover medicines that make life better. These discoveries start in Lilly Research Laboratories, where our scientists work to create new medicines that will help solve our world’s greatest health challenges.

The Lilly Diabetes and Complications Research organization has created a research team focused on discovery and preclinical development of novel and best-in-class therapeutics for the treatment of type 1 and type 2 diabetes and the complications associated with these diseases. The scientist in this role will investigate diabetes and therapeutic intervention in animal models, cell culture and patient’s pancreas, liver, fat, kidney, heart, and other organ tissues. We are looking for an experienced microscopy slide image analysis scientist who will provide technical leadership in the analysis of pathology and immunohistochemical imaging data supporting disease understanding, drug discovery and development from preclinical through translational and early clinical research. In addition, the candidate will explore new opportunities to develop computational analyses of microscopy slide features and advance novel microscopy techniques, while working conjointly with novel detection methods in histopathology (special stains, in situ hybridization and immunohistochemistry) for next generation drug research.

Do you have demonstrated experience in immunohistochemistry, florescent immunohistochemistry and in-situ hybridization? We want you on our team to contribute to groundbreaking discoveries! Apply today!

Responsibilities:

  • Support diabetes drug development programs through histological analyses of patient and cell/animal model tissues

  • Collaborate with discovery scientists in the development and validation of tools for histological feature analysis of diabetes and its intervention to support pre-clinical drug discovery and early drug development.

  • Provide consistent in-house analysis across the diabetes programs

  • Enable in-house quality control and oversight of microscopy slide imaging data

  • Work with Lilly Information Technology to evaluate and incorporate software tools that enhance image analysis capabilities

  • Prepare and present imaging and/or study results to corporate committees, regulatory agencies, and outside audiences

  • Publish results of research projects and clinical trials as appropriate.

  • Contribute to study design and writing protocols and fit-for-purpose analysis plans

  • Support histopathology studies by facilitating outsourcing / insourcing of histological processing and staining

  • Attend scientific symposia as well as technical workshops in order to maintain knowledge of state-of-the art technologies

Basic Qualifications

Ph.D. in Cell Biology or related field or M.Sc. with at least 5 or more years of experience that includes histopathology, microscopy and image analysis

  • Experience generating and analyzing whole slide images

  • Experience managing collaborations and outsourcing with CRO, academic and other industry partners

  • Detailed strong research background in application and analysis of preclinical/clinical imaging/microscopy

  • Understanding of diabetes biology and diabetes animal models with ability to interpret imaging data to help drive understanding of disease modification

  • IHC and pathology study planning, outsourcing

  • Advanced imaging data analysis and interpretation (i.e. 3D image analysis).

  • Demonstrated ability to work on cross-functional teams and projects
