The Synthetic Molecule Design and Development (SMDD) department within - Lilly Research Labs is an integrated synthetic molecule drug development organization which spans drug discovery and development phases from early discovery to submission and post-approval. Our scientists and engineers develop innovative technical and business solutions across a portfolio of projects using their deep technical expertise to accelerate testing of the clinical hypothesis and overall drug development. Our team is looking for highly motivated, creative, and energetic candidates who will provide leadership in biopharmaceutics modeling and oral drug product performance.
The successful candidate will be:
Involved in the integration of early clinical and commercialization activities, including clinical study design, drug product design, formulation development and global regulatory submission support.
Support the design of new dosage forms and drug delivery technologies using pharmaceutical sciences knowledge, including formulation, biopharmaceutics, product performance, pharmacokinetics, and patient centered aspects.
Assess and predict the oral performance of drug molecules and formulations in pre-clinical species and humans.
Partner with and influence groups at the discovery, development, and clinical interface to solve complex technical problems and to identify and implement novel formulations and clinical study designs that maximize benefit to our patients and value to Lilly.
Influence and engage the external scientific community to foster collaborations to advance Lilly’s portfolio.
- Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences and/or Chemical Engineering
Self-directed and highly motivated individual who wants to learn new techniques while continually pursuing research and publication goals.
Excellent communicator (oral and written) with presentation experience, along with a strong publication record.
Demonstrated proficiency in oral biopharmaceutics and biopharmaceutics modeling
Ability to develop custom models describing physical and biological processes and code these models in suitable programming languages
Proficiency with advanced chemical engineering principles
Experience with experimental techniques to evaluate drug product performance, especially for oral drug products
Theoretical and model-based descriptions of physical and biological processes related to biopharmaceutics and absorption
Formulation development and physical pharmacy of small molecules
Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills.
Proficient in data analysis and reporting.
Demonstration of scientific leadership skills.
Must be able to work productively in an interdisciplinary team environment.
