Lilly Scientist-Biophysical/Analytical Characterization in Indianapolis, Indiana

At Lilly, we unite caring with discovery to make life better for people around the world. We are a global healthcare leader headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana. Our 35,000 employees around the world work to discover and bring life-changing medicines to those who need them, improve the understanding and management of disease, and give back to our communities through philanthropy and volunteerism. We give our best effort to our work, and we put people first. We’re looking for people who are determined to make life better for people around the world.

It is an exciting time to be part of Lilly! Our Biotechnology Discovery Research (BioTDR) organization is growing. We contribute to discovering and optimizing novel biotherapeutic (proteins, peptides, antibodies, bioconjugates) medicines for advancement into clinical research. Addressing key areas of unmet medical need in diseases such as diabetes, oncology, immunology, neuroscience is our passion. A crucial component for success is ensuring the generation of drug candidates containing biopharmaceutical properties enable successful manufacturing, formulation, and drug delivery.

The Formulation and Delivery Team is a vital part of the BioTDR organization. We focus on characterization of emerging molecules from Hit-to-Candidate using stage-appropriate biophysical/analytical techniques and development of formulations and delivery systems to support preclinical and clinical development. We have an opening for an experienced associate scientist with extensive hands-on experience in biophysical and analytical characterization of complex delivery systems for peptides and mRNA including targeted polymeric/lipid particles, ligand-drug conjugates, and other related systems. The Formulation & Delivery team works cross-functionally with multiple groups across the research and development continuum in a highly integrated and collaborative fashion.

Responsibilities

  • Independently craft and execute experimental studies to answer key questions on assigned projects with critical attention to details and minimal supervision

  • Collect, analyze, interpret, summarize, and present results in project meetings, department seminars, and other forums; document all experimental plans and results in electronic notebooks following established procedures

  • Contribute to the strategy and execute the experimental work necessary to characterize the properties of new molecules and formulations (e.g., peptide/excipient mixtures, polymer/lipid particles, ligand-targeted delivery systems) to guide integrated molecular/formulation optimization towards Candidate Selection.

  • Establish new analytical, cellular, and biophysical assays with optimum efficiency to interrogate molecule properties, characterize different formulation, and generate insights into optimization steps

  • Work collaboratively and partners across organizations to drive projects on accelerated timelines

  • Review literature to identify areas of innovation and evaluate as part of work to accelerate the delivery of critical breakthroughs and achieve positive impact on project outcome

Do you have proven success in working independently and as part of cross-functional teams with minimal direction? Do you have learning agility to adopt and implement new techniques to address project needs? We would love to have you as part of our team and Lilly family. Consider applying today!

Basic Qualifications:

B.S. or M.S degree in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Physical chemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, or related area with a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience preferably in pharmaceutical or biotech settings

Additional Preferred skills:

  • Hands-on analytical characterization of peptides, mRNA and their formulations (e.g., bioconjugates, polymer/lipid particles)

  • Experience with analytical techniques such as HPLC, UPLC, surface plasmon resonance (SPR), DSC, SLS, DLS, SEC-MALS CG-MALS, AUC, and fluorescence/UV-Vis spectrometers

  • Experience in characterization of cellular uptake and intracellular trafficking using confocal microscopy, flow cytometry, and protein expression techniques.

  • Strong communication and positive relationship-building skills necessary to deliver project landmarks on time
