The Medicines Development Unit plays a meaningful role in progressing the Lilly pipeline and driving the delivery of medicines from the time molecules leave the scientific research environment through product launch. Medicines Development (MD) Information and Digital Solutions (IDS) is a strategic function that supports our company’s goal of growing the value of our medical innovation and accelerating our launch timelines. We do this by providing technical leadership on groundbreaking programs to optimize design of clinical trials, bring clinical trials to patients, speed submissions to regulatory agencies, and by introducing new digital solutions (automation, insights, user experience) in every aspect of how work gets done in taking molecules from the research labs all the way to commercial launch activities. The MD IDS Strategy, Operations, and Portfolio Management team is responsible for ensuring that MD IDS achieves and maintains operational excellence as well as incorporating agile ways of working into our portfolio management practices. This role will be an active member of the Portfolio Operations team as well as the agility transformation team to drive change in mindset and ways of working and transform MD IDS into an agile organization.
Specific objectives for this role include:
facilitate scrum for teams. Take an agile approach to implement process changes, as well as behavioral changes within MD IDS to level up our portfolio management capabilities and agile ways of working,
coach and be responsible for guiding and advising other MD IDS teams in agile ways of working to achieve greater value, speed, and engagement,
collaborate with MD IDS leaders to implement appropriate technical tooling in Portfolio and Operations
propose ideas and influence MD IDS leaders to simplify and streamline activities such as business planning
perform tasks that ensure and improve MD IDS operational excellence,
build and implement communication plan to roll out portfolio management practices and measurements,
work on special projects that focus on external and internal innovation to advance science and care to our patients,
curate tech innovation content to be shared with business senior leadership,
lead team engagement activities that support D&I and Team Lilly principles
About 15% of the job content will be flexible to ensure that resource can work on initiatives that support the personal development needs whether it is around technical proficiency or business sense/strategic influence.
Priority will be given to certification and / or further development in agile capabilities.
This position will report to Janet Sherman, Advisor, Medicines Development IDS and provides the opportunity for associates who want to practice agile ways of working and learn about how to run an IT organization as a business.
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related fields
Strong performance history with at least 5 years of IT experience
Experience working with Leadership and good business sense
Scrum certification or related experience
Ability to identify high value tasks and work independently
Ability to plan, coordinate, and facilitate analysis and design workshops
Ability to work well with different cultures and foster diverse and inclusive environment
Proficient in Jira, Jira Align
Portfolio management experience
Proficient in portfolio management tools such as Planisware, Planview, etc.
A high level of intellectual curiosity, external perspective, and innovation interest
Self-management skills with a focus on results for timely and accurate completion of contending deliverables
Creative analysis/problem assessment/problem-solving abilities
Ability to accomplish results through others, particularly by establishing relationships, and being an effective team coach and partner
Demonstrated agility to foster a continuous learning organization that focuses and achieves the highest priority value
