In 1992, Eli Lilly and Company established the Delivery, Device, and Connected Solutions (DDCS) business for the purpose of creating, developing, launching and refining proprietary delivery device systems. This business is unique to the broader Lilly Research Labs organization due to its focus on patient centered delivery system solutions, its innovative approach to delivery platforms utilizing both internal and external technologies, and its level of integration with the commercial groups and Business Units.

We are seeking a highly motivated Systems Engineering (SE) leader to join our DDCS team. You will be a key leader of multi-functional teams comprised of various technical and functional players. You will develop and integrate capabilities across multiple, sophisticated systems and system of systems to provide seamlessly integrated connected device and digital health solutions.
Key responsibilities include the following:
Partner with key team members to elicit stakeholder needs, understand the context and environment, facilitate the deconfliction of requirements, spearhead trade analyses, and manage stakeholder expectations throughout the development lifecycle.
Create system architectures or portfolio architectures that incorporate flexibility, adaptability, modularity, and scalability to maximize reuse and interoperability.
Lead full lifecycle systems engineering activities.
Drive continuous process improvements and contribute to defining the strategic direction of the Systems Engineering field at Lilly.
Coach and lead a team of systems engineers; responsible for career and performance development, training, staffing assignments, and eliminating blockers for team members.
Lead sophisticated programs serving as the single point of technical accountability for successful delivery of the solution(s).
- Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) field with 10+ years of working experience
Additional Skills / Preferences:
Advanced degree preferred
5+ years of engineering management or engineering functional management experience
Possesses a passion for systems engineering and has experience selling the benefits of systems thinking across the organization
Familiar with ISO 15288, ISO 14971, and experience with FDA class II or III medical device regulatory requirements with knowledge of drug product and medical device standards
Expert, hands on experience with systems engineering tools and processes. Familiarity with SysML, model-based systems engineering (MBSE), and feature-based Product Line Engineering (PLE) methodologies
Demonstrated success utilizing both structured (i.e. waterfall) and iterative (i.e. Agile, SAFe) system and system of systems development methodologies
Experience delivering innovative and optimized solutions that integrate multiple capabilities and technologies spanning various engineering disciplines
Exemplary soft skills and demonstrated ability to become an expert in the stakeholder's environment to effectively translate user needs into architectures and requirements
Demonstrated ability to work effectively across boundaries, and effectively influence without authority to drive organizational culture change
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to effectively interact and influence both business and technical leaders
INCOSE certified Systems Engineering Professional (ASEP, CSEP, ESEP)
Primary location is at Lilly Technology Center – North, Indianapolis, IN
Secondary location is remote work from home
Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
