Position Brand Description:

Investor Relations (IR) at Lilly is a fast-paced, externally-oriented, and high-profile team that plays a central role in cultivating and maintaining a productive relationship between Lilly and the investment community. This includes existing investors, potential investors, and Wall Street analysts covering the pharmaceutical industry and Eli Lilly. Lilly’s credibility with these groups is vitally important, and IR serves as a critical conduit both for disseminating information about Lilly and its products, and for receiving and feeding back investor perspectives to Lilly’s executive leadership. Each individual on the IR team, once up to speed in the role, must be a knowledgeable and credible company spokesperson able to operate independently in investor and executive engagements. Excellent communication skills and the ability to confidently and tactfully provide perspective/feedback both across and upward in the organization are essential.

Along with the existing IR team members, this Sr. Director of Investor Relations will play a central role in bringing our investor relations capabilities to new heights.

Key Objectives/Deliverables:

Quickly build knowledge of – and ability to succinctly articulate messages for – Lilly’s financial results, marketed products, pipeline opportunities, and overall strategy; Build understanding of and relationships with key buy-side investors and sell-side analysts; Develop credibility and personal equity with Lilly executives involved in investor interactions; as well as with Lilly commercial and development leaders and team members across the company to support content creation for investor messaging; Manage the creation and update of investor Q&A documents on a quarterly basis; lead several cross-functional teams across the company to deliver materials; Actively contribute to and manage successful quarterly earnings calls, sell-side conferences, investor road shows, medical meeting investor events, and major investment community meetings; and Identify – and implement – ways to improve IR activities and processes.

To be successful in the role, a candidate must:

  • Demonstrate outstanding written and oral communication skills;

  • Quickly synthesize a high volume of external and internal information;

  • Effectively navigate complex issues;

  • Work well under pressure, multi-task effectively and prioritize;

  • Think and respond quickly “on their feet”; and

  • Engage external stakeholders and build relationships.

Additional Preferences:

It is highly desirable to have financial knowledge/experience as well as significant exposure to LRL, especially clinical phase assets and activities, and our commercial operations, especially in the US. Other relevant experience may include: OUS demand realization; CBD/CFIB; and Treasury.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree, with 6+ years of finance or related experience

  • MBA preferred

Other Information:

Travel requirements:

  • 6-8 trips per year;

  • Concentrated between February-September;

  • Primarily major U.S. financial centers (NY, Boston, LA/SF); and

  • Typically overnight (1 night stayover) trips, but also some day trips and some 2-3 night trips.
