The Global Health Safety and Environment (GHSE) department provides standards, performs audits, consults on operational compliance, advises on best practices, consults on cultural improvement efforts, conducts benchmarking, and communicates with HSE on every level. We blend high-quality counsel with decades of practical experience across a wide variety of industries.

Headquartered in the Lilly Corporate Center and providing support globally, we help business areas manage their HSE programs more effectively, meet critical compliance obligations in operations around the globe, and achieve improved control of workplace HSE aspects (hazards or risks).

Responsibilities:

This position provides functional ownership for Eli Lilly’s External Partner HSE assessment program. This position leads and manages the Lilly External Partner HSE program and business processes and provide technical HSE expertise to the Contract Manufacturing Organization (CMO) through assessment of Lilly’s global external partner network. This position also provides technical HSE support for all due diligence activities (i.e. mergers, acquisitions and divestitures).

Key Objectives/Deliverables

Management of the Lilly External Partner HSE risk and sustainability assessment program

  • Provide strategic leadership and management of the External Partner Program.

  • Responsible for the development of effective relationships with key stakeholders in External Manufacturing , Procurement , Business development, Manufacturing Strategy, Supply Chain, Legal and Global HSE to ensure an effective program and in particular that the scope of the assessment program reflects areas of greatest risk to Eli Lilly & Co.

  • Ownership and development of HSE external partner management systems.

  • Maintenance and development of tools and processes required for the effective management of the program (collaboration site, database, assessment tools and documents, program metrics).

  • Coordination of the Lilly external partner assessor forum ensuring close collaboration with LRL (Lilly Research Laboratories) and IDM (Indy Device Manufacturing) external partner programs.

  • Responsible for the assessment of and reporting the status of external partner HSE risk to appropriate governance bodies.

  • Acting as the primary point of contact with the Pharmaceutical Supply Chain Initiative (PSCI) including ownership of internal processes to promote and maintain PSCI objectives within Lilly.

  • Responsible for integration of the HSE functional risk assessment process within Lilly’s Working with Third Parties program.

Provide expertise in the HSE assessment of external partners and due diligence activities

  • Conducting assessments of external partners within the scope of the Lilly HSE external partner assessment program

  • Maintenance and development of assessment tools and processes and database required for the effective management of the program

  • Communicating with Lilly CMO management, HSE functional management and external partner management regarding outcomes from assessments and in particular identifying significant program gaps

  • Acting as the primary technical resource to Lilly External partner management (manufacturing, procurement and business development) to assist develop and maintain relationships with third parties and ensure HSE improvement programs are being implemented

  • Work with Corporate HSE and external partner management to identify specialist HSE support for external partners as required.

  • Developing training materials and conducting training for HSE assessors and other stakeholders.

  • Ownership of the HSE due diligence process and tools for assessment of new acquisitions

  • Working with Eli Lilly legal group to assess, evaluate and communicate HSE risks associated with new acquisitions.

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in science, engineering, or Health, Safety and Environmental field.

  • At least 5 years of relevant HSE experience including deep technical knowledge in one or more HSE program area (e.g. environmental, IH, process safety, general health and safety).

  • Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.

  • Knowledge of auditing / assessment programs including previous auditing experience.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Fluent in English, other languages beneficial.

  • Flexibility and learning agility, including ability to prioritize workload.

  • Ability to spot issues and appropriately escalate to senior management.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a corporate role across a complex organization to implement and communicate solutions at all levels of the organization.

  • Demonstrated project management / planning capability.

  • Experience with PSCI (Pharmaceutical Supply Chain Initiative auditing process).

  • Auditing certification e.g. ISO14001, OHSAS18001, ISO45001, etc.

  • Ability to translate complex or technical subjects into easy-to-understand commentary for a broad audience.
