Position Description:

The Competitive Continuous Improvement (CCI) team provides leadership in operational excellence and productivity efforts by combining knowledge of pharmaceutical manufacturing with Lean principles and tools. Methods used to deliver these productivity improvements include both event-based (Lighthouse Projects, Kaizen Events, etc.), as well as nonevent-based daily improvements.

The focus of the QC CCI Coach role is to partner with QC laboratories across the site to deploy CI OpEx standards and support both event and nonevent-based continuous improvement. Results include, but are not limited to, cycle time reduction, increased asset effectiveness, expense reduction, improved quality and safety, as well as increased employee morale at all levels due to more time being spent on value-added activities.

Key Objectives/Deliverables:

  • Empower individuals and teams to use lean behaviors and mindsets to strive for execution excellence.

  • Lead QC area based Lean launch events and support deployment of Lean in assigned teams, focused on the unique aspects of laboratories.

  • Facilitating local Lean and CI OpEx training for all QC teams.

  • Provide ongoing guidance and mentorship to key roles in the organization regarding the practical application of principles and tools, as well as the related critical thinking and behavioral characteristics necessary for role effectiveness and development.

  • Provide coaching to QC teams through systems assessment, feedback processes, and follow-up.

  • Facilitate and promote internal benchmarking and sharing of best practices related to Lean systems, practices, and developments through formal and informal mechanisms (e.g., shared leaning forums, events, networking, etc.).

  • Establish, facilitate, and maintain internal cross-functional relationships necessary to perform the CI OpEx Coach role as described.

  • Assess deployed areas to promote ongoing continuous improvement of lean deployment.

  • Partner with QC leadership to ensure all employees are active lean users.

  • Promote learning and reflection through facilitation of reflections and/or After Action Review (AAR) exercises.

  • Engage routinely with sponsors and site CCI Champion to provide status, project issues, team feedback/engagement, and escalate where appropriate as issues arise.

  • Represent QC organization on the site CCI Lead Team.

  • Capture benefits of Lean program and celebrate successes.

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related science or engineering field

  • 3+ years of experience in pharmaceutical QC laboratories

  • Previous experience in CI OpEx, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Demonstrated strong problem solving and analytical troubleshooting skills.

  • Previous Six Sigma or CI OpEx certifications.

  • Understanding of statistical tools and analysis.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and networking skills.

  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks.

  • Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills.

Other Information:

  • May require working off-hours to support projects including team members from all shifts.

  • Tasks require entering laboratory and/or manufacturing areas which require wearing appropriate PPE.

  • Tasks may require working in areas containing allergens and other potentially hazardous materials.

  • This role will be based in Lebanon, IN upon construction of the site. Prior to construction, this role will primarily be based within the project team in Indianapolis.
