Facilities Supervisor

Lilly is currently constructing an advanced manufacturing facility for production of API (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient) molecules located in Lebanon, IN. This facility is Lilly’s largest investment in manufacturing capacity and is intended to provide APIs for current and future products, including new modalities. This is a unique opportunity to be a part of the startup team for a greenfield manufacturing site, and the successful candidate will help to build the processes and facility to enable a successful startup into GMP manufacturing operations.

Main Purpose and Objectives of Position:

The Facilities Supervisor is responsible for leading a team of Facilities Technicians at the Lebanon Plant 1 API Manufacturing. The role provides leadership and direction to the Facilities Techs and contracted services in coordination with the engineering and maintenance groups within the site engineering organization. The Facilities Supervisor ensures that site’s contracted services deliverables are executed safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively to support the site production goals and business agenda. This role will ensure facilities are available, clean, maintained & repaired to the applicable standards. This role is responsible for the daily workflow activities.

In the project delivery phase and startup phase of the project (startup expected 2025 to 2027), leadership roles will be fluid and dynamic as we endeavor to support the project delivery, build a new organization, develop and implement the necessary systems and business processes required to support GMP operations, and build the site culture. This will require significant collaboration, creativity and resilience as the site grows to a full scale GMP manufacturing through start up.

Key Responsibilities:

Daily Operations Management

  • Responsible for oversight of the facilities planning, scheduling, and work completion process for both scheduled and reactive work.

  • Monitor the business and execution processes to ensure work is being performed in conformance with site and corporate goals.

  • Ensure consistent work practices are implemented & applied throughout the site and work with Maintenance and contracted service peers to identify best practices onsite.

  • Main point of contact for facilities and responsible for escalation of any issues.

  • Works with all functions to ensure facilities meets the site needs & ensures effective prioritization of activities.

  • Responsible for supervising and coaching direct reports.

  • Responsible for facilities staffing including recruitment and resource planning.

  • Sets expectations for a positive & proactive safety culture as well as in task completion through personal actions, coaching and monitoring of work activities.

  • Provide leadership on data integrity.

  • Manage events from initial response to follow-up.

  • Maintain safety, GMP and Environmental Standards.

  • Performs lockouts for Admin areas, provide escorts for external contractors and issue Work Permits.

  • Performs contractor safety audits and service acceptance of work performed.

Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE)

  • Ensure safe work practices of facilities and contract personnel.

  • Ensure all potential injuries of operations personnel are reported immediately.

  • Investigate/implement safety improvements.

  • Investigate incidents, implement safety initiatives and action items

  • Ensure staff compliance with all HSE regulatory commitments and SOP’s.

People Management

  • Ensures training for the team is at or above the site goal.

  • Ensure ongoing continuous improvement and future planning.

  • Identify and implement changes to work practices in conjunction with appropriate team members.

  • Ensure the company values, standards and policies are communicated to and modelled within the team.

  • Will support direct reports in the application of HR Policy, Safety Practice and Employee Relations.

  • Conduct annual performance reviews with direct reports.

  • Ensure continuous on-going learning and reflection on learning using the Leadership Development Policy and Procedure.

Basic Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. Lilly does not anticipate providing sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B or TN status) for this employment position.

  • Completion of Post Offer Exam or Completion of Work Simulation if applicable.

Additional Preferences:

  • Bachelor’s or Associate's Degree in science, engineering, or technical field

  • Emergency Response Experience

  • Industrial, military, volunteer, career firefighter

  • Indiana State or IFSAC Certification – Fire 1, Hazmat Technician

  • Previous experience in facility/area start-up environments

  • Demonstrated leadership experience in manufacturing or maintenance.

  • Skills in providing/receiving feedback and creating employee development plans

  • Basic computer skills (desktop software) are required.

  • Solid understanding of FDA guidelines and cGMP requirements.

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to handle and prioritize multiple requests.

  • Strong technical aptitude and ability to train and mentor others.

  • Ability to work with a team, make independent decisions, and influence diverse groups.

  • Ability to instill teamwork within the shift and demonstrate key interpersonal skills.

  • Good analytical/critical thinking.

  • Ability to manage people in high activity workspace.

  • Ability to network with customers and SME's.

  • Proven ability to make good use of systems, procedures, & processes.

  • Demonstrated track record in effective leadership and development of teams in line with the stated Key Attributes (see below).

Additional Information:

  • The Facilities Supervisor role may involve some non-scheduled call-in time to respond to plant emergencies or be required to provide support outside of normal working hours including nights, weekends, and holidays. At times, the Supervisor may need to travel offsite to other Lilly locations, other pharmaceutical companies, conferences, or off-site training. Tasks require entering manufacturing areas which require wearing appropriate PPE.
