Position Summary:

The position is responsible for identifying, recommending, contracting and ongoing relationship management of In Vitro Diagnostic (IVD) partners who can develop, secure global regulatory approval, and commercially launch global diagnostic solutions (Dx) in support of Lilly’s Rx pipeline. This position requires an in depth understanding of the IVD industry, IVD development process, and routine clinical lab operations.

Success in this role is predicated on working closely with both internal and external IVD stakeholders. The candidate will be expected to demonstrate professionalism, leadership, and an “executive presence” by interacting with internal senior level decision-makers and effectively negotiating with senior executives from a variety of IVD companies. The candidate will be expected to present strategic and operational findings to CBBD leadership and business unit leadership.

Position requires outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, proven ability to negotiate complex business decisions, high learning agility and ability to successfully navigate ambiguity.

Responsibilities:

  • Establish and manage a network of IVD companies who can provide global regulatory approved Dx solutions to support Lilly’s drugs and drug candidates.

  • Engage and drive discussions with key internal stakeholders (Regulatory, Legal, Business Development, External Sourcing, Procurement, Statistics, Quality etc.) to ensure integrity and compliance in the Dx partner recommendation and solution.

  • With approval from the drug team and Clinical Biomarkers and Business Development leadership (CBBD), own the process to devise and deliver Master Service/Collaboration Agreement and/or Statements of Work and/or Project Schedules with appropriate IVD partners for each distinct IVD project.

  • Utilize internal and external resources to monitor and develop relationships with emerging IVD partners.

  • Serve as the alliance manager for both contracted and emerging IVD partners to ensure long standing business relationships with these key business partners.

Educate and advise drug teams on Dx options .

  • Participate in drug team meetings as a member of the Dx Development organization.

  • Actively work to understand the unique clinical development objectives of each drug program to inform Dx alternatives and solutions.

  • Accountable to understand and effectively communicate the diagnostic capabilities required to support a regulatory approved Dx.

  • Provide diagnostic consult and support to drug teams regarding IVD partner options based on program needs and registration strategy.

  • Actively partner with drug teams and Diagnostic Development Directors to ensure appropriate support is considered in budget process to develop a regulatory approved Dx.

  • Serve as credible resource and champion of building Dx Development acumen within Lilly.

Negotiate IVD Business Development Deals.

  • Working in partnership with Corporate Business Development team serve as an active champion and advocate for Master Service/Collaboration Agreements and Statements of Work/Project Schedule for Lilly programs.

  • Keep CBBD and Lilly leadership informed on deal risks, progress and timelines.

Basic Requirements :

  • BS in relevant field of study and a minimum of 5 years’ experience in corporate business development function or equivalent. Experience in alliance management, pharma collaboration, or partnership management relevant.

  • Demonstrated understanding of technical, operational, and business issues in the regulated clinical diagnostics industry.

  • Proven experience in negotiating CDx development deals and contracting with external partners either IVD or pharma

  • Experience in negotiating complex deals demonstrating a high level of business acumen

  • Strong ability to identify a problem and evaluate problem-solving options.

  • Professionalism and integrity; trust building.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Initiative / self-starter mentality

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills

  • Executive presence

Additional Preferences:

  • Prior experience in finance, sales, business operations, supply chain, oncology, biomedicines, & diabetes therapeutic areas

  • Clinical laboratory management experience

  • MBA and/or PhD preferred

  • Diagnostic regulatory knowledge

  • Project Plan management experience

  • Experience in a global landscape

  • Knowledge of medical terminology

Lilly currently anticipates that the base salary for this position could range from between $150,000 to $220,000 and will depend, in part, on the successful candidate’s qualifications for the role, including education and experience. Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance). In addition, Lilly offers a comprehensive benefit program to eligible employees, including eligibility to participate in a company-sponsored 401(k); pension; vacation benefits; eligibility for medical, dental, vision and prescription drug benefits; flexible benefits (e.g., healthcare and/or dependent day care flexible spending accounts); life insurance and death benefits; certain time off and leave of absence benefits; and well-being benefits (e.g., employee assistance program, fitness benefits, and employee clubs and activities).Of course, the compensation described above is subject to change and could be higher or lower than the range described above.
