Lilly Sr. Director, Real-World Data Science and Analytics Lead (VEO) in Remote, Indiana

The demand for high-quality health economic and outcomes research (HEOR) and real-world evidence (RWE) to support drug development, health technology assessment/access decisions, product differentiation, and clinical decision-making continues to increase. The purpose of the Lilly Value, Evidence, and Outcomes (VEO) team is to accelerate equitable patient access and transform healthcare delivery through the execution and communication of bold, high-impact science. The VEO Center of Innovation (COI) is the central capability of real-world data/evidence (RWD/E) within Lilly. Under the COI, the Real-World Data Science and Analytics Team will provide data science expertise and deliver analytic needs for VEO. The team will scale up strategic capabilities and RWE analytics tools for VEO.

The Sr Director of Real-world Data Science and Analytics Team will lead a team of Real-World Data Scientists and Analysts working on multiple therapeutic areas and disease states. The Lead must demonstrate leadership within real-world analytics by defining best practices in analytics and fostering an environment of continued learning for the team. The Lead will collaborate with VEO scientists and the broader Team Lilly to drive innovations in data science and provide analytic expertise for observational research, develop strategic RWD analytics capabilities, and support RWE generation for patient access, drug development other business imperatives. In addition, the Sr Director will guide the Data Science and Analytics Team to proactively inform and translate real-world evidence generation strategy from a data science and analytics perspective. The Lead will continuously improve analytic approaches that have a high impact on business and effectively communicate these approaches to internal and external stakeholders.

The Sr Director is responsible for coordinating a portfolio of real-world data analysis that can be delivered to expected timelines and quality. The Lead will also coordinate and manage the VEO analytic workload with a strong partnership with the Lilly Capability Center in India (LCCI). In addition, the Lead needs to ensure appropriate quality control of analytic work and that the studies are conducted by VEO’s standard operation procedures., where appropriate. The Lead will work with the team to provide appropriate documentation regarding data management, statistical analysis, and reporting.

People Leadership and Operational Excellence

  • Mentor team-members and upskills capabilities of Real-world Data Science and Analytics Team

  • Demonstrate operational excellence that enables strategy innovation within compliance limits, adheres to Lilly’s legal and SOPs and contractual obligations

  • Prioritize key real-world data analytic initiatives with greatest impact to patients and Team Lilly

Leadership and Partnership in Real-world Data Science and Analytics

  • Partner with VEO and the broader Lilly Team to apply innovative, fit-for-purpose analytic approach

  • Provide strategic leadership and scientific expertise to execute a portfolio of studies and analytic projects to enable VEO to deliver quality and high impact science.

  • Proactively influence team members and drive the use of new capabilities, appropriate research/statistical design and analytics delivery

  • Be a champion of innovative ideas to drive and implement innovations and push the boundaries of what is possible with RWD/E

  • Develop a strong knowledge of therapeutic RWD/E needs and contribute to priorities, in collaboration with COI RWE Strategy Lead and VEO BU leaders/scientists

  • Effectively manage of a portfolio of projects and prioritize resources effectively to deliver real-world data analytics to expected timelines and quality.

External Engagement

  • Effectively contribute as a Lilly representative to external industry initiatives to address key gaps and shape external guidelines in real-world data analytics

Basic Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in a discipline relevant to statistics, epidemiology, outcomes research with 10+ years of industry experience.

  • Knowledge and experience across RWE methodology and across study designs.

  • Proficient in use of health information tools and analytics languages (i.e. R, Python, SAS, and SQL).

Additional Skills/Preferences:

  • Professional knowledge in use of RWD/E for drug approval and reimbursement.

  • Previous global responsibilities and experience in dealing with US and OUS markets.

  • Ability to network effectively with and use technical and non-technical skills to be a respected and influential leader.

  • Demonstrate ability to inspire, motivate, and achieve alignment with diverse personnel even when they are not directly reporting into the organization.

  • Demonstrate leadership skills and influence stakeholders to resolve conflicts.

  • Demonstrate leadership in establishing external partnership.

Additional Information:

  • Location is flexible in desired geography.

  • Domestic and international travel may be necessary.

Lilly currently anticipates that the base salary for this position could range from between $160,500 to $235,400 and will depend, in part, on the successful candidate’s qualifications for the role, including education and experience. Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance). In addition, Lilly offers a comprehensive benefit program to eligible employees, including eligibility to participate in a company-sponsored 401(k); pension; vacation benefits; eligibility for medical, dental, vision and prescription drug benefits; flexible benefits (e.g., healthcare and/or dependent day care flexible spending accounts); life insurance and death benefits; certain time off and leave of absence benefits; and well-being benefits (e.g., employee assistance program, fitness benefits, and employee clubs and activities).Of course, the compensation described above is subject to change and could be higher or lower than the range described above.
