The Biotechnology Discovery Research Division at LBC-San Diego, responsible for generating, characterizing, and optimizing biotherapeutics from lead generation through lead optimization and preclinical development is hiring. We support cross-disciplinary efforts to engineer innovative biotherapeutics that treat metabolic, autoimmune, and neurologic diseases. This is an opportunity for an independent self-motivated researcher to join the Protein Bioscience Group in Lilly San Diego. We are seeking a cellular and protein expression scientist to express novel therapeutic proteins and antibody, and to work with cross functional teams in drug discovery to enable new technical capabilities. The successful candidate will lead the effort to design and implement optimal gene-to-protein workflows to generate novel therapeutic proteins and cell lines.
Responsibilities:
Protein and antibody production using mammalian expression platforms (transient and stable)
Optimization of expression plasmid and culture conditions to improve productivity
Clonal cell line generation through FACS/Flow analysis and cell banking
Partner with molecular engineers, and protein scientists to address specific project needs and challenges
Coordinate and present data to support decisions in cross-functional teams
Maintain a current knowledge in the field, attend meetings and conferences, and contribute to original research publications
Basic Qualifications:
Ph.D. in protein biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, structural biology, biophysics, or related field
2+ years of relevant experience beyond Ph.D. education in a pharmaceutical, biotech, or research organization
Additional Skills/Preferences:
Comprehensive knowledge and extensive hands-on experience in recombinant protein and antibody production using mammalian expression systems
Strong hands-on experience in mammalian cell line generation
Knowledge and hands-on experiences in FACS/Flow analysis
Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and an ability for creative thinking
Attention to detail with strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple projects
Extensive knowledge in molecular biology, and gene manipulation techniques
Creative problem solver ready to work effectively with multi-functional colleagues across geographies in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to prioritize work and meet targeted timelines.
