Lilly Advisor-Mass Spectrometry Lead in San Diego, California

We are seeking an exceptional mass spectrometry scientist to join a dynamic and highly collaborative team of scientists within the Molecular Pharmacology department that spans enzymology, biophysics, cell pharmacology, chemical biology, analytical technologies, and structural biology. We aim to uncover mechanistic insights vital to understand the molecular basis of therapeutics and to drive drug discovery efforts. The position is focused on the bioanalytical characterization of proteins generated from recombinant systems by using pioneering mass spectrometry techniques and biophysical tools. The information generated through these techniques will be critical to support our structural biology and in vitro pharmacology programs supporting Lilly’s small molecule drug discovery.

Basic Qualifications/Requirements

  • PhD (or MS with 5+ years or BS with 8+ years of relevant experience) in analytical chemistry, chemistry, biochemistry or related field; 1-2 years of post-doctoral experience is preferred.

Additional Skills/Preferences:

  • Experience with quantitative protein mass spectrometry and proteomics workflow.

  • Deep knowledge of bioanalytical mass spectrometry, with extensive experience in analyzing proteins and other biomolecules, peptide mapping, and characterizing post-translational modifications.

  • Ability to work independently to design, implement and validate LC/MS experiments and as part of team effort with strong relationship skills.

  • Design and implement experimental approaches to test hypotheses, solve analytical problems, and summarize research results.

  • Present and publish scientific findings in the broader scientific community.

  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills and enjoy working in a collaborative team environment.

  • Additional experience in native mass spectrometry, affinity-selection mass spectrometry and/or chemical biology.

  • Experience in developing high throughput data analysis packages will be a plus.
