The Discovery Chemistry & Technologies organization within Lilly Research Laboratories is a diverse and dynamic group seeking a highly skilled scientist to join the structural biology team. We support drug discovery for numerous innovative projects and are looking for qualified scientists with expertise in recombinant protein expression. The individual will work with diverse team of scientists and will be responsible to implement gene-to-protein workflows for challenging drug discovery targets including GPCRs and membrane proteins. Broad experience and proven track record with E. Coli and Insect cell expression systems is required for this position. Design and produce drug discovery targets, and research reagents using prokaryotic and eukaryotic expression systems. This includes construction of complicated fusions, mutations, multiple tags, so.
Innovate to develop core technologies and apply state-of the art technologies to achieve success in delivering needed molecular biology reagents to support drug discovery efforts.
Experience in basic molecular biology cloning, sequence analysis, tissue culture, baculovirus virus production, small scale expression and solubility analysis is required.
Experience in large scale fermentations (WAVE and flasks) of insect and mammalian cells is preferred
Partnering closely with other structural biologists, biophysicists, protein biochemists and in vitro pharmacologists to develop integrative approaches and address specific project needs and challenges
Interpret experimental data, along with observations from the literature, to provide innovative solutions to project teams.
Communicate experimental data and key findings to project teams
Contribute to scientific projects where solutions are developed through teamwork.
Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biophysics, Biochemistry, Structural Biology, or other relevant field or
B.Sc or M.Sc with 7+ years of applicable experience in relevant field mentioned above is required (preferable industry experience).
Experience in mammalian expression system
Experience in recombinant protein purification and structural biology is advantageous
Comprehensive knowledge of GPCR biology and pharmacology will be a plus
Flexibility to work in an environment with constantly evolving priorities and completion timelines, with strong interpersonal, written & verbal communication, and problem-solving skills
Strong capability to collaborate with scientists in multiple fields
Familiarity with gene-to-structure workflow
