The Protein Biosciences group at the Lilly Biotechnology Center San Diego seeks a BS or MS level scientist with experience in protein mass spectrometry to join a team responsible for the expression, purification, and characterization of protein therapeutics. The primary focus of this position will be the characterization of proteins.

Responsibilities:

  • Characterization of proteins using Mass Spectrometry.

  • Maintain and troubleshoot high end Mass Spectrometry systems.

  • Maintain HPLC, high through put liquid handling and robotics systems

  • Disseminate results to project teams, transition teams, and legal groups in a clear and concise manner

  • Cross train and help with other MS techniques to characterize antibody therapeutics as needed.

  • Protein characterization using SEC, cIEF, CE-SDS other biophysical techniques such as HIC and CIC.

Basic Qualifications:

  • A Bachelors in chemistry, biochemistry or a similar field with at least two years’ post graduate experience, OR a Masters with 0 years experience.

  • Experience working with proteins and basic biochemistry.

Additional Skills/Preferences:

  • Knowledge and hands-on experience with protein mass spectrometry.

  • Knowledge and experience with HDXMS would be a plus.

  • Strong teammate with excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Experience with Waters mass spectrometry systems, HPLC and software would be considered advantageous.

  • Understanding of protein structure
