The Discovery Chemistry Research & Technology (DCRT) division of Lilly Research Laboratories (LRL) supports small molecule drug discovery efforts from target identification through clinical candidate selection. We are the Discovery Automation Research and Technologies group within the DCRT organization and help to enable LRL to improve its research capabilities by providing new and creative automation solutions. These solutions enhance both quality and capabilities of the scientists and operations using automation. We are seeking a qualified laboratory automation professional to support our Next Generation automation solutions. Do you have experience in implementing laboratory automation equipment, programming, or writing protocols for laboratory automated equipment? Check out some of the details of the role below!


  • Develop deep knowledge of software for specialized laboratory equipment or robotics systems

  • Provide support for integrating multi-components systems in a workflow

  • Deliver professional Automation support of DCRT operations

  • Design and develop effective software to support business processes and data capture Lead installation, start-up, commissioning and qualification of laboratory equipment and automation systems as well as implement continuous improvement and safety projects for these systems

  • Maintain, QC, build methods/scripts and train users on instruments and systems

  • Assess and troubleshoot software and network/work with IT to resolve issues

  • Lead external vendor software collaborations

Basic Requirements:

  • BS in engineering, chemistry, biology or related field with appropriate training or exposure in automated laboratory systems or

  • High School diploma or equivalent with at least 4 years of applicable experience or Associates Degree in technical, computing or related field with at least 1 year of applicable experience

Additional Skills/Preferences:

  • Mechanical proficiency relevant to general laboratory equipment and solid understanding of scientific principles

  • Proficiency in developing client-supported automated processes Competence in applying new techniques, procedures, technologies and software for drug discovery research

  • Knowledge of C+, PL/SQL, Tempo, Green Button Go, Venus, Microlab, or Evoware

  • Excellent organizational, computer, time management and communication skills

  • Demonstrated examples of problem solving and project coordination skills

  • Ability to work well independently, as well as in matrix team environments across geographies

Additional Information:

  • The position may require working in an area with allergens and potentially hazardous materials (PHM).

  • The position may involve travel to other research sites to understand and support global Discovery business.
