Position Summary:

This position will play an important role in supporting a team of scientists in the Protein Science & Engineering team within Loxo@Lilly’s Large Molecule Discovery group.

This position is 100% onsite at our South San Francisco location and will support sample processing, analysis of complex samples by LC-MS and other analytical strategies to propel our large molecule discovery efforts. The role is lab focused but will have the opportunity to interact with project teams regarding data generated. The role requires a clear understanding of strategies laid out for the Loxo@Lilly Large Molecule Discovery team’s implementation of strategies in the context of supporting bioanalytical and mass-spectrometry functions. This includes performing characterizations of antibody and ADC candidate molecules (routine QC, developability assessments, and peptide mapping). Past experience with bottom-up and intact MS workflows and other discovery-related characterization is desired. Additionally, this role supports pre-clinical in-vivo/pharmacokinetic studies utilizing bioanalytical techniques. Excellent organizational and benchtop skills will be required to process samples and perform small molecule mass-spectrometry for BioA/PK analysis. Thorough understanding of mass spectrometry workflows and the ability to troubleshoot/optimize instrumentation and sample processing workflows is critical.

Roles and Responsibilities of the Position:

  • Perform sample prep on and support the overall development, optimization, and execution of analytical assays for protein characterization and bioanalysis.

  • Support BioAnalysis sample preparation from complex matrixes (plasma/tissue) for mass spectrometry-based ligand binding assays.

  • Flexibility in supporting and participating in new projects and contributing to changing deadlines.

  • Prepare and analyze antibody/ADC samples for routine testing on analytical instruments such as RP-HPLC, SEC, LCMS (High Resolution and QQQ)

  • Advance the LCMS and analytical capabilities of lab to gain insights into ADC designs and mechanisms of action

  • Collaborate with the team to meet timelines and deliverables.

  • Perform general lab maintenance and instrument calibrations.

  • Maintain a high level of productivity in a laboratory setting.

Required Qualifications:

Required:

  • A BSc and >8 years or MSc and >5 years of directly relevant experience with LC-MS in a drug development setting, or a PhD in a relevant scientific discipline (level commensurate with education and experience)

  • Prior hands-on experience generating and interpreting LC-MS data to support large molecule drug programs is essential.

  • High level of proficiency of Excel or prism, is required

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with strong organizational abilities

  • Experience troubleshooting, maintaining of mass spectrometers and LC

  • Proven track record in conceiving and implementing creative LCMS and other analytical solutions in the lab to advance the understanding of drug mechanism of action or developability

Ideal candidate will also have:

  • Extensive hands on experience operating and maintaining Sciex 7500 Qtrap, Orbitrap, or other MS instruments.

  • Previous work with antibodies, ADCs and other biotherapeutics and/or small molecule drugs

  • Additional hands-on experience using analytical characterization such as SEC/HIC, U/HPLC, cIEF, CE, LC-MS, and cLIF is a plus

  • Prior experience working with high capacity/throughput analysis of plasma and other samples is a plus

  • Experience with high throughput plate-based assays (Working with automation is a plus)

  • Experience developing and validating assays using LCMS targeted MS or proteomics techniques

  • Experience analyzing and interpreting and reporting analytical data, along with sharing and presenting data to collaborators.

  • Experience with and/or a deep understanding of PK and BioAnalysis of small molecule drugs or ADC biologic drugs

  • Experience with R for data visualization is a plus.

Loxo@Lilly (Eli Lilly and Company) currently anticipates that the base salary for this position could range from between $104,250-195,800 and will depend, in part, on the successful candidate’s qualifications for the role, including education and experience. Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance).
