Loxo@Lilly conducts discovery research, clinical development and regulatory affairs for oncology, with the goal of creating a pipeline of therapies that have the potential to make a meaningful difference for patients. Loxo@Lilly was created in December 2019, combining the Lilly Research Laboratories oncology organization and Loxo Oncology, which was acquired by Lilly in early 2019. The unit has team members in Louisville, CO, Indianapolis, IN, New York City, NY, South San Francisco, CA, San Diego, CA, Stamford, CT, and Madrid, Spain.

Loxo@Lilly’s Large Molecule Discovery team is looking for a Senior Scientist, Analytical Sciences to support our growing biologics portfolio. This role will support enzymology studies on ADCs and to carry out mass-spec based quantitation of small molecules and ADCs, distributed across various tissues and biological matrices, for ADC Discovery Research. This individual will be a self-motivated, responsible, and productive scientist who enjoys collaborating. He/she will be responsible for rigorous experimental design, data analysis and data interpretation. This position requires excellent people skills, a positive can-do attitude, and the ability to thrive in a highly interactive, fast-paced, team environment.

Roles and Responsibilities of the Position:

  • Design and develop novel biochemical assays to identify and characterize small-molecule modulators using a variety of techniques and detection methods, including chromogenic, FP, FRET, TR-FRET, BRET, and ALPHA.

  • Perform enzyme kinetic analyses and MOA studies to characterize the effect of biological enzyme systems on ADCs.

  • Prepare lysosomal and subcellular fractions from various cancer cell-lines

  • Extraction of small molecules and ADCs from a variety of tissue samples and biological matrices for mass-spec quantitation

  • Mass-spec based quantitation of small and large molecules extracted from various biological matrices

  • LC method development for various characterization and bioanalytical applications

  • Continuously expand on biochemical repertoire by exploring and developing additional assay and technological instrumentation.

  • Oversee outsourcing of enzyme assays to external CROs and monitor results.

  • Operate automated platforms for liquid handling.

  • Calculate and report assay results to the project teams.

  • Document experiments and results in electronic notebook or database.

  • This position is a hands-on lab-based role

Required Qualifications and Preferred Background:

  • A BS, MS, or PhD in a Life Sciences discipline, with training in chemistry, analytical chemistry, biochemistry or related fields, and a record of lab based independent research experience, minimum of 10 years for BS, >8 years for MS and >5 years for PhD, either in industrial or academic environment.

  • Hands-on experience in characterizing small molecules, antibodies and ADCs using state-of-the-art AB Sciex/Thermo/ Waters TOFs and Triple Quads.

  • Hands-on experience in analyzing mass-spec data using various vendor provided software for small molecule and protein analysis

  • Hands-on experience in running various analytical techniques including, and not limited, to HPLCs and UPLCs for characterization and quantitation of small/large molecules

  • Familiarity with routine maintenance and troubleshooting of analytical and mass-spec instrumentation

  • Must be highly collaborative and able to effectively engage small-molecule research project teams to make rapid progress.

  • Demonstrated ability to work well with other accomplished professionals within and across functions/teams. Willing collaborator.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Ability to multi-task and shift priorities rapidly to meet tight deadlines.

  • Excellent written and verbal communicator.

Loxo Oncology, Inc. (Loxo) currently anticipates that the base salary for the Senior Scientist position level could range from between $89,750 to $131,672 and will depend, in part, on the successful candidate’s qualifications for the role, including education and experience. This position also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance). In addition, Loxo provides a comprehensive benefit program to eligible employees, including vacation, medical, dental and vision benefits; participation in a 401(k) plan; life and accidental death and disability coverage; parental leave benefits and employee discounts for certain items. The compensation described above is subject to change and could be higher or lower than the range described above. Further, Loxo reserves the right to amend, modify, or terminate its compensation and benefit programs in its sole discretion.
