The biochemistry, cell biology and biophysics department in Alcobendas Lilly Research Labs is seeking a highly skilled in vitro pharmacologist to join our team located at the Alcobendas site in Madrid, Spain.
SUMMARY OF THE POSITION
The successful candidate will:
Have demonstrated practical research experience on the molecular basis of cancer biology.
Provide support and expertise to drug discovery programs in oncology with multiple target classes (Membrane receptors, kinases, transcriptions factors, scaffolding proteins, …) from target validation to clinical candidate selection.
Lead project strategy and direction from the laboratory in collaboration with the Therapeutic Area, Chemistry and Structural Biology.
Design and implement strategies to identify and characterize small molecule ligands for oncology targets.
Develop and perform biochemical and cell-based assays to support the screening flow scheme in oncology programs.
Generate mechanistic data to guide small molecule drug discovery efforts
Support the implementation of new technological approaches for the study of cancer biology as well as the effect of small molecules at cellular level.
Participate on multidisciplinary teams, presenting scientific data in support of research projects.
Required Education and Experience:
A Ph.D. or equivalent is required in pharmacology, biochemistry, cell biology or a related discipline with a strong publication record.
Direct experience working in oncology is required, as is hands on experience conducting relevant assays to explore signaling pathways and cell phenotypes associated to tumorigenesis.
A strong grounding in the theoretical basis of pharmacology and the ability to apply models to analyze quantitative data.
Strong capability to collaborate with scientist in multiple disciplines
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Strong work ethic. Scientific curiosity. Can do, will do attitude.
Additional desired skills:
Postdoctoral experience and/or experience in the biotech or pharma sector would be an advantage.
Experience/knowledge on protein engineering and Structural Biology
Sound knowledge of the drug discovery process is also highly desirable.
