Lilly is designing and building a new state of the art Parenteral, Device Assembly, and Packaging Facility located at the Research Triangle Park (RTP) in North Carolina. This is an exciting opportunity to help build and operate a state-of-the-art manufacturing site and Quality System from the ground up.

The Logistics Process Engineer will join the project team supporting system level detailed design, material handling and automated storage equipment commissioning and qualification activities, commercial product validation and ultimately ensuring the operating site Logistics System ( Automated Storage and Retrieval System, Material Conveyance, Automated Guided Vehicles, Autonomous Mobile Robots ) meets the requires of the business.

The Supply Chain for this facility will be highly integrated, minimizing inventory holding, utilizing reusable/returnable containers and pallets in closed loop system design.


Material Flow and Project Support

  • Create and maintain a site level Plan for Every Part (PFEP). The PFEP will include, but not limited to, supplier data, both SAP bill of material and non-bill of material items such as reusable containers and pallets, product usage expressed as quantities and rates across the RTP site. The PFEP will be a living document, that will be used throughout the project delivery phase enabling a smooth transition to operational execution.

  • Drive lean principles and ensure efficient and effective material flows are maintained.

  • Support the value stream mapping initiatives across the RTP site.

  • Coordinate, cross functionally, to ensure appropriate container harmonization is achieved across both internal Lilly sites and external supply network

  • Develop and implement pallet and tote cleaning strategies

  • Develop and implement material identification strategies

  • Support the development of Logistics Standard Operating Procedures in partnership with Operations Leadership

  • Partner with maintenance and automation to develop a spare parts strategy. Post Project Responsibilities

  • Responsible for ensuring the Logistics Systems (AS/RS, Conveyance, AGVs, AMRs, etc) meet the demands of the business

  • Monitor the daily performance of the system, looking for trends and opportunities for continuous improvement

  • Maintain PFEP data throughout the lifecycle of all production flows to ensure flows are balanced and not stressing the system

  • Work closely with business leaders to identify when business demands will exceed the capability of the logistics system.


  • At least 5 years’ experience in Supply Chain and Logistics management (S&OP, demand management, customer service), matured in industries with complex supply chain (e.g. - Automotive, FMCG, Pharma/Medical Devices)

  • SAP User/Experience in using ERP systems

  • Demonstrated Project Management skills and ability to coordinate complex projects across manufacturing network/external partners

  • Knowledge of supply chain network modeling and analysis tools

  • Strong analytical and quantitative problem solving skills

  • Ability to communicate and influence effectively across functional groups and stakeholders

  • Strategic thinking and ability to balance short-term needs with long/term business evolution

  • Excellent presentation and communication skills

  • Enthusiasm for changes, team spirit and flexibility

Additional Preferences

  • APICS (American Production & Inventory Control Society) certification

  • Lean Six Sigma experience

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor Degree in Business, Engineering, or Supply Chain Logistics (MBA is a preference)
