In Durham, North Carolina, Lilly is constructing a new and cutting-edge pharmaceutical manufacturing plant. This plant will be one of Lilly’s most technically advanced manufacturing sites and will include robotic technologies like Automated Guided Vehicles, Autonomous Mobile Robots, Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems, and numerous robotics cells that will result in safety improvements, increased productivity, and variability reduction. As a Logistics Automation Engineer for the Lilly manufacturing site, you will provide engineering expertise for the implementation and support of these robotic technologies.
In, addition you will have the following Key Objectives/Deliverables:
• Support for large capital project delivery through the completion of the new site project.
• Work effectively with partner companies and contractors as needed.
• Partner with other senior technical staff to perform aspects of project delivery including but not limited to: Equipment specification and delivery, Site and Factory Acceptance activities, Verification/Qualification activities, and problem resolution.
• Support the Design Delivery Gate Review process by maintaining Gate protocols and executing gates on major projects and participates in Manufacturability Review assessments.
•Provide subject matter expertise for RTP site robotic system design, development, installation, testing, and support.
•Develop site training and best practices for support and continuous improvement of the robotic technologies utilized throughout the RTP site.
•Be a champion for safety activities and a role model for diversity, ethics, and compliance.
•Future expectation of front-line and project support of logistics automation at Raleigh manufacturing site when the facility goes into operation.
•Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
•Minimum 3 years as an engineer in a highly automated environment supporting automation and/or robotic systems
•5 years as an engineer in a highly automated environment supporting logistics automation equipment development, deployment, support, and troubleshooting.
•Experience supporting manufacturing operations and driving continuous improvement in equipment performance.
•Proficiency in delivering highly complex tasks and/or tasks that are highly cross-functional or cross-site in nature and may have aggressive timelines.
•Experience utilizing robotic technologies to deliver value to manufacturing operations.
•Thorough knowledge/experience in cGMP, ICH, USP, and applicable regulations as well as robotics industry standards
Fanuc (TPP and Karel) and Staubli (VAL3) programming
Fanuc’s IRVision and Cognex for robot guidance
Fanuc’s Roboguide Simulation Staubli Robotics Suite (SRS)
AGV / AMR control systems and fleet managers
Control system programming and integration (PLC, HMI, MES, etc.)
Communicate effectively to customers, business partners, and staff including good oral, written, and visual presentations.
Interpret and apply solutions to different situations by understanding customer needs and applying strong problem-solving skills.
Utilize and implement various tools, systems, and processes resulting in improved operational excellence of laboratory and manufacturing operations.
•Must be able to travel up to 25% of the time, US and international.
•The position will sit onsite at our location in Durham, NC.
•Will require occasional work in a variety of manufacturing environments; some safety equipment and/or gowning may be required.
